Flight Training Member & Guest Night

Guests young and old are encouraged to join us on Thursday evenings for an introductory flight.  Fly with us to assess your interest in the sport!  For those who want to advance, flight training is offered free of charge to any Omahawks R/C Member.  Instructors are at Hawk Field Thursday evenings and are available to assist you if you request it.  For your safety and that of others, new students and non-soloed pilots are required to fly with an instructor until you have been soloed through the training program.

Members, we provide assistance with building projects, advanced or specialized flying instruction is available from the instructors too! See our Newsletters ("Our Club" tab) for expert contacts. Primary Flight Instructors will be on hand to assist you in advancing your flying skills.

During the summer months (April through September starting at 6pm) our instructors will provide free introductory flights for those curious to see if this hobby is for them.  We use a “buddy box” system where both you and your instructor have a radio control which makes flying both fun and safe.  Our training planes are built to be easy to fly and provide a great first flight experience.

Our Mentor Program will help provide you with the skills and experience to fly on your own.  As a student in our training program, a Mentor / Flight Instructor will be assigned to you to work through each of the levels within the training program. This Mentor program allows the Instructor and Student to coordinate times during the week when they can fly together at their convenience as opposed to waiting for one night a week to fly.

The Omahawks training staff has compiled an excellent R/C Flight Training Manual which is called the Flight log, used by the instructors to document the students proficiency level, and will give the student and idea of what is expected to pass each flight level. All students are encouraged to study this manual in preparation for instruction. (See the Training Manual tab under Our Club.)

Since 1953, the Omahawks have provided a successful and well respected flight training program to individuals looking to embark on an exciting and rewarding hobby. If you have never flown radio controlled aircraft and have always wanted to get involved in this exciting and rewarding hobby, now is the time to get involved. Even if you do not currently own an airplane come on out to our field and meet with one of our instructors and they will offer you an Intro Flight on one of our club-trainers to see if this hobby is right for you.

The following photos show Omahawks members providing introductory flights to guests and flight instruction to individuals both young and old.
